I was given a pretty old laptop but it doesn’t have any networking card. No modem, LAN or wireless. So I’m in the market for a pcmcia wireless card that has good support in Linux. It must be able to support promiscuous mode as well.

Any recommendations? I’m willing to spend $100+ for a good one but I don’t want to if I don’t have to, of course.

Proxim ORINOCO 11a/b/g Gold Combo Card. Unless you want to plug an external antenna in it.

I would say Orinoco gold also but be weary of setting up the drivers in nix on an old laptop. I have an orinoco gold classic that works perfect on windows but something would always go wrong when id have it setup on linux. Im not sure if it was my laptop model (semi-old) or if I just kept missing a step installing (leaning more toward proxim drivers) but none the less the card worked really good in kismet on windows especially with an external directional antenna (def worth getting).

However on another Lenovo laptop, WiFi was buggy when after I removed the white-list, putting in an a now-supported card.. 156-315.77 Braindumps
